Sydney is a visual feast. That's good for online marketing!

Having recently returned to Sydney after several years in Perth, I'm reminded of what a spectacular city it is. It is jam-packed with iconic sites and landmarks both man-made and natural.

Needles to say it's desirable to make your website look good. And appealing images get shared often on social media. So if you have a website that is Sydney oriented in some way -- such as one for a local business -- it's worth thinking about how you can use photos taken locally.

You have to keep your site faithful to its central theme, of course. You don't want to make it look like a travel site if that's not what it's about! But there must be times when you can use local images.

Maybe you can take pictures of staff with well-known local landmarks in the background. And if there are events related to your industry being held in Sydney at places like Darling Harbour, then you can write blog posts about these that include photos and/or videos.

If you offer services such as cleaning or plumbing then keeping a camera on you is a good idea. Going out to jobs you're bound to see some striking sites that you can find a place for in a blog post or Facebook update. You could even create a Pinterest board for these pictures.

As well as being a good adjunct to your online marketing efforts, taking your own photos comes at no extra cost. It also means that you don't have to worry about copyright issues. That can be a headache if you want to use free images found on sites such as Flickr.
